Summer Song

‘Summer Song’ draws on the enduring presence of the rose, long associated with love, memory and human connection.

This work draws on the layered petals of David Austin roses, developed and cultivated in the English Midlands, where I live. Their forms are suggested through interwoven, softened lines and a rich, muted palette of rose, peach and deep green.

Roses carry a quiet familiarity. They take me back to my childhood, watching my dad patiently tend his roses in the front garden. They mark occasions, hold sentiment and persist across generations. In this piece, they become both subject and memory, something carefully nurtured and quietly remembered.
