Taken Root

Lesley was awarded The Stanley Smith Bursary from The University of Birmingham’s Botanic Garden (Winterbourne) where she was given a studio in The Gardens and spent a year working alongside biologists; diving into ecology, conservation, biodiversity, medicinal plant use, ethnopharmacology, sustainability, and botany. The body of created during this residency went on to tour the UK reaching ten, non-traditional gallery spaces; each one chosen to spark curiosity in people who might never visit a traditional gallery.
